Indego Africa at the Oscars FEATURES: 2008 ACADEMY AWARDS Indego Africa wine coasters and agaseke baskets were featured products at the 2008 Academy Awards. As part of its "Gifting for a Cause" promotion, VRI Entertainment included Indego Africa products in the gift bags given to celebrities at the pre-Oscar party suites. More than 70 celebrities took home a piece of Rwanda to display in their homes. Raye Mitchell, owner of VRI, noted that the gift suites are "exclusive and very selective" and Indego Africa's participation reflected their mission of "devis[ing] a gift that was trendsetting, philanthropic, multicultural and of personal interest to the celebrities." Indego Africa's "must-have" products certainly fit the bill. FEATURES: THE INDEGO AFRICA MODEL Starting with its pilot program in Rwanda, Indego Africa is challenging outdated models of development (that encourage dependence on direct aid) and delivers to its partners a real stake in their own development. In contrast to past programs, our partners can claim that they have rightfully earned anything that we provide to them. This approach is attracting considerable media and academic attention. - Kristen Farrell, Blog, Politics with a Grin (October 29, 2008)
