The artisan sector is the second largest employer in the developing world. Yet the majority of artisans are women who lack access to export markets, business skills, and the financial tools needed to run successful, global enterprises.

We are dedicated to changing that by investing 100% of our profits into education programs for the women who handcraft our products and youth in their communities. Since 2007, we've provided over 1,100 artisans and 250 young people in Rwanda & Ghana with employment opportunities, entrepreneurship training, and consistent access to the global export market.

That's Impact.

Our Promise

Local + Sustainable

Local is durable. We strive to be environmentally responsible in the production of all our products. We use a range of natural fibers indigenous to the countries where we work, sourcing our materials from local markets and farms where our partners live and work. Materials that cannot be sourced locally are sourced consciously, prioritizing pan-African trade, quality and sustainability.

Celebrating Craftsmanship

Craft Matters. Each of our products, from weaving to woodcarving, is handcrafted using time-honored, heritage techniques. We collaborate with our artisan partners to create products that celebrate their talent, share the beauty of traditional African artistry, and showcase our dedication to high-quality, modern design. Our artisan partners take pride in creating our handmade products, and their skill ensures the reliable quality of our brand.

Transparent Partnerships

Our artisan partners work with us, not for us. We build long-term transparent partnerships, working collaboratively to determine fair pricing and ensure they have the resources to deliver beautiful and consciously crafted products to consumers around the world. Together, our partners make up 23+ primarily women-owned artisan businesses in Rwanda, Ghana, and Refugee Camps.

Long-Term Impact

Our artisan partners have big dreams and big plans. We invest in their education because we believe in their ability to achieve (and exceed) their goals. We entrust our partners with the innovative designs, advanced skills training, and the market access needed to start careers and grow their own businesses. When women are financially and emotionally supported, they become powerful engines of growth for their families and communities.

About the Product

SISAL: Found inside the Agave plant, sisal fibers are fine but incredibly strong, with a naturally light color great for dying. Rwandan artisans often use sisal in a traditional coil weaving technique where hand dyed threads are wrapped around bunches of sweetgrass to create a tight coil that can be woven in a range of colors and patterns.

COIL WEAVING is the oldest known weaving technique, with the earliest surviving example dating back 10,000 – 12,000 years. The technique creates durable and intricate designs perfect for home and garden applications.

Each of our Rwandan cooperatives are skilled in coil weaving. It’s the first technique new artisans learn during vocational training & the first used when joining a cooperative. The skill is prized for both its functionality and beauty.
